Synopsis :-
Kotoko Aihara has always dreamed of being in the same class as Naoki Irie since she entered high school!
However, there's a bit of a problem: Irie is the smartest student in the entire school, while Kotoko is considered to be on the opposite end of the scale. She struggles with her studies and is often labeled as the 'dumbest' girl in school.
Despite reaching her third year, Kotoko still hasn't made her dream a reality.
Then, one day, disaster strikes, and her house is destroyed. As fate would have it, the only place she can go is Irie's house!
Now that they're living under the same roof, who knows what will happen? Will their relationship stay the same, or will it blossom into something more?
The Review:-
This anime is one of my all-time favorites! I remember stumbling upon it when I was in the mood for something a little less serious.
The storyline is both beautiful and realistic, but it's not just the plot that makes this anime shine!
One thing I find fascinating is how the artwork stays true to the original manga, which was written in 1991. The animation is quite good too. Unlike most shoujo series, the men in this anime actually look like men! This is often not the case in shoujo.
There are some inconsistencies, though, especially with Kotoko. In some scenes, she looks a bit too childish, and sometimes the art can be a bit plain, particularly with the color palette and background. That's why I say the artwork is good, not excellent.
The music score is outstanding according to some, and I agree to a certain extent. Both the opening and ending themes are catchy and great to listen to!
Typically, in an anime like this, the story follows a predictable pattern: the guy does some chasing, then the roles reverse, they share an intimate moment near the end, and that's it. We rarely get to see how the romance progresses.
However, Itazura Na Kiss is different. It shows us everything in a very realistic way. We see Kotoko's determination to get Irie to notice her, but we also see how unlikely their relationship seems.
The anime not only shows the progression of their relationship but also the repercussions afterward, which is something we don't usually see.
Additionally, the show does a great job of making us, the viewers, feel what the characters are feeling and think what they are thinking.
Every anime has its flaws, but what I love most is that the characters don't magically change. They stay true to themselves throughout the entire series, and I think that's something we all hope to see. It's the most enjoyable part of it!
Itazura Na Kiss has been rated a 7 out of 10, but I think it deserves a higher score. So, I'm giving it a 9 out of 10.
