Synopsis:-
Miko Yotsuya, a high school girl, focuses intently on a single spot on her phone—desperately trying to ignore the terrifying monster in front of her, whispering, "Can you see me?"
Life used to be much simpler for Miko. She enjoyed her high school days, especially watching late-night horror shows for fun. But everything changes when she realizes she's the only one who can see the invisible monsters roaming freely among humans.
Determined not to acknowledge their existence, Miko decides she will never, under any circumstances, react to the horrific creatures. However, even as she tries to ignore them, she can’t help but notice how these monsters affect the people around her—especially her best friend, the sweet and energetic Hana Yurikawa.
With all her strength, Miko pushes through her school life, doing her best to protect them from danger while holding back her fear—even when it brings her to tears!
The Review:-
Before watching 'Mieruko-chan', I had already come across the manga titled 'The Girl That Can See It' and instantly fell in love. So, when I found out they were making an anime based on it, I was beyond excited—and the anime didn’t disappoint!
Even though it's classified as horror, the anime has a good dose of comedy, especially with Miko’s friend Hana, who just loves to eat all the time! I also really liked the character designs. Each of the main characters has their own unique hair color, which makes them stand out.
I appreciate how consistent the details are, too. For example, there's a teacher who goes on leave during the series because she's pregnant, but it's not out of nowhere—she’s shown as pregnant from the very first time we see her. This keeps the story cohesive without leaving loose ends.
As for the monsters, they definitely fit the horror theme, but I found them more disgusting and unsettling than scary. If you have a weak stomach, I'd recommend avoiding meals while watching, because they are pretty revolting!
The bright colors really bring the show to life and make the characters pop, which I loved. And the music? Super catchy and fun to sing along to! Both the opening and closing themes add a lot to the overall vibe of the anime. Even the narration that previews the next episode fits seamlessly with the flow.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed 'Mieruko-chan' and will probably rewatch it when I need a break from more serious anime. The show is rated 7.51 out of 10, but I’m giving it a solid 9.5 out of 10. It was such a fun watch, and the only reason I didn’t give it a perfect score is that I’m hoping for a second season—I’ll definitely be on the lookout for it!
