Carla (シャルル Sharuru)

Carla is a furry, white Exceed from the anime Fairy Tail, created by Hiro Mashima.

In Japanese, her name is actually Charles or Charle, but it was changed to Carla in some countries to avoid confusion—since the original name might sound masculine.

Still, I think Charles or Charle really suits her, don’t you?

Carla is often referred to as a cat. She has soft white fur, pink ears, and brown eyes. You’ll usually see her with a pink ribbon tied to the end of her tail—though her outfits do change from time to time! When she activates her powers, she sprouts angel-like wings and takes to the skies.

She’s actually the daughter of Queen Shagotte, but she was first introduced as the companion and caretaker of Wendy Marvell.

Before joining the Fairy Tail guild, Carla and Wendy were part of Cait Shelter.

PERSONALITY!!

Carla is usually seen as serious and strict, rarely showing much emotion—aside from the occasional hint of pride or disapproval.

When it comes to meeting new people, she tends to keep her distance and stay reserved. The one big exception to this is Wendy.

Carla shows a deep sense of care for her and often takes on a motherly role. She's always encouraging Wendy to come out of her shell and be more sociable—though Carla herself isn’t exactly the most social Exceed around!

Fun fact: she absolutely loves Darjeeling tea and has a strong dislike for tomcats. (You’ll see why!)

MORE GROWING RELATIONSHIPS. . .

Remember how we said Carla doesn’t like tomcats?

Well, that made it pretty ironic when Happy started showing interest in her! At first, she couldn’t stand him—just being around him seemed unbearable.

She often referred to him simply as “the male cat” and would flat-out reject his fishy gifts every time. (Honestly... kinda rude, right?)

But things began to change once Carla discovered the true nature of their mission. Her view of Happy shifted—especially after he defended her and called her a Mage of Fairy Tail. His courage and loyalty stood out to her, as he was always willing to do whatever it took to protect his friends.

Over time, the two ended up saving each other more than once. That built a real sense of trust between them and brought them closer together.

Even though Carla started off cold and stern, she’s been known to crack a smile or two—especially when Happy’s around. She even danced with him once when he asked!

WHAT DO WE LEARN FROM CARLA?

Carla always keeps the people she cares about close, doing everything she can to protect them whenever danger comes their way.

She also stands firmly for what she believes in. With a strong-willed spirit, Carla doesn’t let others easily sway her—she knows who she is and what she stands for.

She’s level-headed, clear in her thinking, and often shows a maturity beyond her years (or whiskers!).

Over time, Carla also learned the importance of opening up to others.

After all, you can’t keep everyone at arm’s length forever—especially when they truly have your best interests at heart.
